A Google Sheets KPI tracker is often enough for a small team. The problem is remembering to open it. If you are looking for a Google Sheet notification when a business metric drops, you need a numeric condition—not just a notice that someone edited the file.

Kisu reads a selected numeric column, calculates a metric, and queues a Slack notification when your condition is met. It checks every 12 or 24 hours. It is not an instant cell-change trigger.

Build a tracker with one clear reporting period

Imagine a marketing team tracking qualified leads for the current week. Create a tab named Weekly KPI with these first-row headers and example values:

The total is 34. If your team’s review floor is 40, Sum less than 40 is a matching condition. These numbers illustrate the setup; use a threshold based on your own business.

Do not add a Total row in the same selected column. Kisu would include both the detail rows and the total, which doubles the sum. Keep notes and targets in other columns.

Connect the spreadsheet and configure the notification

  1. Sign in to Kisu and activate a subscription.
  2. In Configuration, connect Google Sheets. Data access requires separate consent from Google sign-in.
  3. Add a Slack incoming webhook as a destination, then use Send test to confirm it works.
  4. In Alerts, create a Google Sheets alert. Use Choose spreadsheet, select Weekly KPI, and select Qualified leads as the Metric column.
  5. Choose Sum, less than, and 40. Choose Every 12 hours or Every 24 hours, then select the Slack destination under Notify via and save.

Kisu reads the sheet; it does not change cells. Formula cells use their current calculated numeric values, so you can prepare a helper column in Sheets without writing SQL in Kisu.

Make the aggregation match the question

Use Sum for totals across rows. Use Minimum to find whether any numeric value is below a floor, or Maximum to check whether any value exceeds a ceiling. Average answers a different question and can hide individual outliers.

For a single overall conversion rate, calculate the ratio of totals in one numeric cell under a header. A helper column containing only that numeric result avoids an unweighted average of channel rates. Percentage values use their underlying numbers: 10% is 0.1, so a ten-percent threshold is 0.1.

Know what the tracker includes

Each check includes all rows below the selected column header, including new, hidden, and filtered rows. Blank cells, text, and numbers stored as text are ignored. A column with no numeric values produces no data, not zero. Zero itself is a valid numeric value.

Keep historical weeks outside the selected column, or use a dedicated summary tab. Review the alert after inserting or moving columns because columns are tracked by position. Tabs are tracked by ID, so renaming a tab does not break the read.

Use the notification as a review prompt

A weekly total can be below target early in the week by design. Consider a rolling seven-day summary, or set a realistic review floor for your process. Kisu does not calculate a day-of-week target for you.

Every successful matching check queues a notification, even if the previous check also matched. Review results and delivery status in History. For more details on source behavior, read Monitor metrics in Google Sheets.
